    Imbu 20210209 Koda JanMost business owners sell their company once in a lifetime – or never. You will only know whether the sale is successful, when you feel great after the deal. But for most sellers, the horizon of their thinking stops at the moment of the deal – and then there is a big wall.
    If you want to sell, think about what you want to do after the sales. And I do not mean, what you want to do with the money, no, I mean what your life will be about. What kind of respect you want to enjoy, as soon as you are not the owner of that company any longer. What kind of people you would like to be surrounded with, once the management team does not see you as their boss any longer. What activities you would like to do, as soon as you are no longer welcome to join the activities that now dominate your life.

    But it is prepared long before the deal

    Of course, the financial consultants and the M&A brokers will tell you that their preparation determines the success of the deal. That is true. But, their preparation and the effectiveness of the sales process starts with your input and your intentions. So, the quality of your thinking is determining the whole process. And its success.

    As soon as you start thinking about selling the business, it is wise to put your thoughts on paper – all together. So that, by the time you are talking with the broker and legal counselor, you have all the answers ready for them. And, so that, by the time the deal making is at its hottest, you don’t wake up in cold sweat, and might want to back out of the almost signed contract.
