On March 1, 2022, we were invited to the coffee chat of Jim Lippens, founder of Happiness@Work, and organiser of the international conference on happiness at work. It was an interesting chat about our startup studio, its move to Estonia, the digitalisation of the world in general, and of course, about the Future of Work.
We recalled these three takeaways about the Future of Work from this interesting chat
- people need to know the bigger picture of their company, so they understand what dream they need to share and strive for
- people need to understand the structure of the organisation and how they fit into that structure and get a clear view of how they add value
- the dynamics of the organisation should make people feel safe, supported, and respected in the value they create
Important to understand about self-steering is that this is not a free ticket to do whatever you like. It changes management from controlling micro-efforts to managing output and results. And it requires teams and individuals to be open and transparent about how they want to improve the delivery of that outcome.
