I recently saw a Facebook post from a good friend, in which she warned us for the consequences of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) in decision taking. AI seems to favour male over female recruits. Artificial Intelligence uses online data to build upon, so the more online data show male over female preferences, the more AI will confirm and amplify such preference.
When I saw my friend’s post, I realised that all recruitment campaigns world-wide prefer male over female, since we always write “looking for top candidate (M/F)”. So, all the recruitment campaigns world-wide confirm the male over female preference. That’s a huge pile of coloured data, isn’t it. Biiiiig data.
That’s when I decided to turn things around. We are looking for more female leadership, and more mixed gender team assembly. So from now on, we are writing our recruitment ads with and ‘F/M’ indication, rather than ‘M/F’. And we do hope many other companies copy this idea, and change the online big data globally, towards a more gender-balanced society.
